What and Why
What: Chocolate
Why: Mmmmm, chocolate. For all of you with a sweet tooth for Valentine's day, you must be salivating by now.
Chocolate? I can eat chocolate. There is an abundance of research about the cocoa bean out there. It aids in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and it tastes fantastic! But of course, there is also the balancing act when it comes to consuming chocolate. Although there are some health benefits, there are also some negative aspects. A few of these include extra calories, fats, caffeine and sugar. They key is avoid the chocolate bars with extra sugars and fats like caramel, nougats and other creamy fillings and stick to 65% or higher dark chocolates with fruits and nuts. Have a plan, educate yourself on your treats, the good, bad and tasty. With all the temptations surrounding us, it is quite the battle. G.I. Joe's motto, "knowing is half the battle".

Story of the MonthRoad to recovery with Jen!
When Jen first started training with us at StayFitAnywhere she was avoiding certain physical activities and exercises due to a knee injury.
With great dedication and focus during her weekly training sessions she quickly began to take ownership ofher movements and return to taking part in any physical activities she chooses, especially golfing (ladies long drive champ 2 years running!).
Her training program continues to grow as she progresses, she recently learned the Turkish Getup and pressed 2 12kg kettlebells over head for 3 reps. We are very proud of Jen's accomplishments and are already preparing to reach new levels of health and fitness, keep up the great work Jen!

Roaming Tastebuds This month, Joe explores So Hot So Pot.
I live in Vancouver, BC, which I would like to believe is the mecca of exquisite flavours with aromas of cultural diversity. Recently, my girlfriend and I took an outing to Richmond, BC., where a hotel concierge raved about an all you can eat hot pot restaurant. For all you who have been deprived of this popular cultural experience, I highly recommend, seeking out an Asian friend or look up "hot pot" on Wikipedia. As for our hot pot dinner, we went to a hopping place called So Hot So Pot, get it?
It's a great atmosphere with friends and family. Here's the jist of it, placing raw food in a tasty boiling broth. There is a variety of broths; a chicken broth, seafood, hot and spicy and a few others. We picked the safe choice, chicken broth and begun the daunting task of picking our meats and veggies from a list of which seem to go on forever.
I must have picked every plate of meat from pork jowl to chicken to lamb. Of course if you haven't experienced hot pot, the plates are filled with thinly sliced meat which cook within a minute or two. For regular folk like myself, one plate just wasn't enough but I won't share how many I actually ordered. It was all you can eat, so you can just imagine. The veggies were great; winter melons, baby bok choi, taro and my new favourite watercress. Watercress, a small leafy green which contain, folic acid, calcium and iron. I dunked all my meats and vegetables in our broth and in a few minutes, I was chowing down on a full bowl of heaven. The mixture of chicken broth, meat juices, fresh crisp veggies and a touch of soy sauce made my taste buds dance. And knowing I'm the one cooking the veggies and meats without all the premade sauces, salts and sugars, I felt good with what went into my body.
If you've never been to hot pot, I suggest checking out So Hot So Pot. It's about $20 per person, service was friendly and take note of the 2hr dine in limit. I guess this discourages people from sitting there all day gorging - although very tempting.
So Hot So Pot gets out of 5 Don't miss our next Roaming Tastebuds adventure!
